Sunderland Defender Apologises

Sunderland defender Nyron Nosworthy has apologised to the fans for the poor performance against Newcastle on Sunday.

He has told how the whole of the team is committed to putting in a good performance against Boro.

Nosworthy told the Sunderland Echo "We're hurting. The way we lost the game was disappointing."

"It was a derby and it should have been more closely contested. I'd just ask the fans to stay with us."

"We know the Newcastle defeat hurt them - it hurt us as well - but we need them against Middlesbrough."

"The fans have been tremendous all season and I'm sure they will get behind us on Saturday for what is a huge game."

"We know about the bragging rights and what the derby means and we do apologise for a poor performance."

"The only way we can put it right is by putting in a good performance against Boro."

"Any game is a good game after Sunday, But the fact that it's another derby is great."

"There is a lot of frustration and aggression around here."

"The best way for us to get over it is to go out on Saturday, perform well, tackle hard, work hard and get the three points."

"It's in our hands. We're not worrying about going down - we want to win games now. If we perform at our best, we have nothing to worry about against Middlesbrough."

"We gave away two sloppy goals, It was a nightmare start and we gave ourselves a mountain to climb. We weren't ourselves in the first half. I knew what it was going to be like."

"I've played in a derby before and it didn't faze me, but we just didn't get going."

"We've looked at the penalty decision over and over again and I don't think it was."

"We've had loads of decisions go against us this season and we've suffered again at the hands of that."

Vital Sunderland Says

I hope the team get stuck in this time and at least chase down the opposition. The lads didn`t show enough heart in the first half and that what I`ll be looking for on Saturday.
