Manager interest revealed...

Sunderland Chief Executive Peter Walker revealed that the vacant position at Sunderland is already attracting interest just forty-eight hours after Mick McCarthy's departure from the Stadium of Light.

Many names have already been linked with the Championship-bound side and Walker today revealed that several managers have already officially registered their interest in the post.

While it may come as a surprise to many around the country that this job should be so popular, Sunderland fans and, it seems, those within football, know the advantages of managing this club far outweight the disadvantages, as Walker was keen to highlight.

'Sunderland may have had a difficult and disappointing season, but it still has a proud heritage and is well regarded in football terms,' he told the club's official website.

'The club has a strong fan-base and superb facilities for any would-be manager, and is an attractive management proposition. A number of people have already approached the club to register an interest in the position. However, Kevin Ball has been appointed caretaker manager until the end of the season, so the club will not be rushed into making any decision.'

Any fears that no one would be interested can now be put to bed it would seem, and the board can have no excuses for failing to bring in a respected and experienced manager.
