Valencia Linked with Mackem Move

Valencia Linked with Mackem Move

• The Sunday People reported that Steve Bruce would like to bring Antonio Valencia to Sunderland from his old club Wigan. The winger could cost as much as £20m, and Bruce would have to battle Manchester United and Real Madrid for the Ecuador International. Other targets linked in the People include Titus Bramble, Darren Bent and Chris Kirkland.

• The same paper also reported that keeper Craig Gordon, midfielder Steed Malbranque, Anton Ferdinand, Russell Anderson and David Healy could be the first victims of Bruce`s Sunderland Revolution. However, the paper also states that Bruce is also looking to offload David Connolly and Michael Chopra, who have been released and sold respectively, so the level of truth to these rumours remain to be seen.

• The News of the World and the Sunday Mirror reported that Sunderland, Blackburn and Stoke are in the race to sign Alan Smith from Newcastle. The midfielder/striker/constantly injured former Manchester United and Leeds star would have to take a wage cut to head to the Stadium of Light.

• Former loan star Stewart Downing has been linked with a move back to the Stadium of Light, according to the Mirror and the Daily Star Sunday. Downing spent a couple of months with the club when Mick McCarthy was in charge.

•Other players linked over the past couple of days are Steven Davis and Sebastein Bassong, who is rumoured to be on his way to Sunderland for a cut (Shearer`s) price £6m.

I know the player has worked with Bruce before, but if he has the choice of manure, Real Madrid or Sunderland, which choice do you think he'll make? I'm betting he won't choose to move to the Northeast, even though Sunderland are a huge club compared to Wigan.
