Bent Completes Sunderland Move

Bent Completes Sunderland Move

Darren Bent has finally completed his move to Sunderland.

Steve Bruce has broken the club`s transfer record by splashing out £10m on the England international striker, beating the previous record of £9m when Roy Keane signed Craig Gordon from Hearts.

Bruce is delighted to have finally got his man, and Bent has been a long term target for Sunderland, with former managers Mick McCarthy, Roy Keane and Ricky Sbragia all attempting to make a move for the former Ipswich and Charlton hitman.

He said: 'We are very, very pleased of course. Good things come to those who wait.

'I am delighted for everybody at the club, in particular the people who have worked extremely hard behind the scenes to try and pull it together.

'And of course for the supporters because it shows our intent, with the type of calibre that we are going for.

'I think he has maybe never really been given a fair crack of the whip at Spurs. It has not quite happened for Darren at Spurs.

'But he has around 50 goals in 100 Premier League starts and that speaks volumes about why we are bringing him to the club.'

I think you will find it is £10m plus £6.5m add on = £16.5m.

I wish him good luck with you guys. He is a decent striker and will get you goals. It's just the myopic sections of our "fans" that have given him an unfair amount of grief. So if any other Spurs "support" come over to bad-mouth his name, completely ignore them because they know about as much football as a newbie Chelsea bandwagon-jumper. Although he did infuriate with some missed chances, most strikers will do that in a game and in a season. There were a select number of us who knew he was a goalscorer first and foremost and he always produces. I for one will welcome him back to the Lane in the red-and-white. Good luck to him and for your season.

Yeah, good player, he needs to play every week tho. But give him the support from the fans that he never had a spurs and he'll bang them in for you. Nice bloke (twitter rant aside) too from what I can tell. Jones and Bent, if they click, could be a top class partnership. Are you guys happy with the buy? As for the "he's no better than jones" guy...no probably not, but a)theyre different types of player and b)Jones was worth £25m in january remember :P

have to say this is a brillaint move by Bruce, I can see him linking very well with Jones. He is nailed on to get 15+ goals this season and every sensible spurs fan knows it.

Good player and a good lad. Just never had the flair or penache to become loved at Spurs. Weve a long, colourful history of flair players in that position and Darrens direct style was never really suited to our side. Granted hes not the most intelligent player, nor the most skillful. But you cant argue with his goalrecord and i wish him well at Sunderland.

I think you cat's got a very good, fairly young striker from us on the cheap,I was expecting Levy to strangle 14 mil or so out of your coffers!Keep Bent fit and starting every game and you've got 20 goals a season,no problem.I don't understand why he wasn't accepted by some Spurs supporters, especially after he turned down more money at West Ham to join us,it's not his fault the then management didn't buy the much needed left wing with the cash.Best of luck to Darren at Sunderland, hope he does well, needless to say that sentiment doesn't extend to games against Spurs.

He will suit you guys as teams play more offensive against the lesser teams which will enable him to have space to run into. Not to sure about his heading skills though especially with an open goal to aim at from 2 yards.... thanks for the dollar though but if the extra 6.5M is based on success then we shall have to make do with just 10M (Better than nothing).

Darren's goalscoring record is one of the best in the Premiership in recent seasons. Yet he remains an "unfashionable" player. I would put that down only to his less impressive record at international level. As a player at Sunderland, though, he'll do very well I think. I think you guys can count on at least 15 goals from him next season, given the games.
