Teams: Stoke City vs. Sunderland

As expected, Craig Gordon and Nyron Nosworthy were named in the Sunderland starting XI for the first time in the league this season. However, somewhat surprisingly, Danny Collins is named on the bench for the Black Cats.

Fraizer Campbell has recovered from the injuries he sustained in the collision with Norwich keeper Ben Alnwick on Monday to be named on the bench but Marton Fulop has not even been named on the bench after losing his place to Gordon.

Stoke have named a side containing four former Sunderland players, with a fifth on the bench. However, new signings Tuncay and Robert Huth are only named on the bench.
Sunderland: Gordon; Bardsley, McCartney, Ferdinand, Nosworthy; Malbranque, Richardson, Cana, Cattermole; Jones, Bent.
Subs: Carson, Collins, Campbell, Henderson, Leadbitter, Reid, da Silva.

Stoke: Sorensen; Wilkinson, Shawcross, Faye, Higginbotham; Lawrence, Delap, Whelan, Etherington; Kitson, Fuller.
Subs: Simonson, Griffin, Huth, Pugh, Tuncay, Cresswell, Whitehead.
