Steve Bruce lined up looking for some relief after the shocking performance against Wigan last weekend, but ended up thinking 'What have I got to do to get these players performing away from the Stadium of Light?'.

We replaced Da Silva with the under performing Anton Ferdinand and Jones came in to partner Darren Bent. However, it was more of the same old usual midfield not being able to create anything once we went behind at Craven Cottage and lost the fourth away game on the spin.

One great ball into Zamora, one goal against, where as Sunderland had over eight corners and nearly every one of them was dealt with comfortably or picked up by Mark Schwarzer.

We cannot continue to play these away games and end up with no points or any positives to take away from the game. Malbranque, Richardson, Reid, are in the centre to cause problems and give the opposition difficulty in what we can create, but we done nothing with the possession in the second half as we drop to 10th in the league.

Jones had the best chance in the second half as he chased down a poor back pass but did not go round the keeper or get the shot past the keeper. These are the breaks we need to make games change but we keep on performing the way we have over the past five seasons with no attacking intent and rue the bad defensive fragilities at the back.

Bruce has said after the game that it took us 45 minutes to see us perform but he must have went to sleep as we got battered off Wigan, Brum, Burnley and Stoke this season.

We need to pick our game up against Pompey next weekend or things could get more difficult for a team full of players looking to impress.
