No Transer Money For Sunderland

No Transer Money For Sunderland

Seems like there can be no more money made available, so Mick McCarthy will have to use what he has in order to stave off relegation.

Hard times indeed at the Stadium of Light with chairman Bob Murray saying the club cannot borrow any more money with debts of around £40million still outstanding.

Murray told the Sunderland Echo: 'The club cannot borrow more. We paid back no capital, only interest, while in the Championship so we could invest more in the team to guarantee promotion. This season, we should have paid back £5m in capital but negotiated with the banks to pay only £3m so we could invest a further £2m on the playing side. It is not a question of ambition or being too conservative - there comes a time when, if you borrow money, you have to pay some back - and we must protect the long-term security and future of the club.'
