This is brilliant news for Sunderland who needed this approval to keep their academy status and compete with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.
Sunderland finished their last FA Cup victory against Barrow with four young players and this could be a sign of young talent making their mark within the Sunderland squad.
Previously campaigners were not happy at the thought of another building on green belt land and create an indoor training barn, 52-bed hostel, storage space, nature study centre, and an 8ft perimeter fence.
This would have left the young talent in the Sunderland set up being restricted as they could not play in bad weather and dark light.
The new plan has an application just for the training barn only with a new lowered height for the ceiling. This will now be handed over to Government Office for the North East for final approval.
This is some good news finally for Sunderland after a bad few weeks on the pitch but this can only grow the football club and move us in the right direction.
