'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bruce Considers Mensah Deal

It's fair to say the best defender we have had in recent years moved back to Old Trafford in the shape of Jonny Evans. However, this season we have seen the arrival of the 'Rock of Gibraltar' John Mensah and he has been fantastic.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is waiting until the end of the season to make his final decision on signing him permanent.

When Mensah plays alongside Turner we look composed, steady and harder to beat, when he is injured we look sloppy and tend to lose these games. The importance of him staying fit but it is also a big risk to sign someone who rarely trains during the week.

Steve Bruce added:'To be honest [the injuries] are why he's here,' Bruce told the club's website. 'If he'd have stayed fit at Lyon it might have been different, but he picked up an injury and they got another player in.

'Unfortunately that's a problem John's got. We know what the problem is but we also know what a fantastic player he can be when he's on the pitch.

'We'll wait and see how he is.'

Hopefully he can prove his fitness in the last four games and we can sign him on the cheap from Lyon this Summer.
