Argentinian Angeleri Passes Medical On Wearside

This looks like a great start to the transfer window with the arrival of out-of-contract Paraguayan Riveros already being confirmed and the possibility of Belgian U21 goalkeeper Simon Mignolet signing also this week.

The 2m purchase of Marcos Angeleri signals Steve Bruce's intent on improving the defence firstly after losing out on the hunt for Alan Hutton's signature.

Angeleri, 27, has left Buenos Aires club Estudiantes for a relatively cheap price and gives us more options on the right hand side.

Reports in Argentina suggest that Estudiantes` finance chief Marcelo Nicoletti is due to travel to Sunderland later this week to complete the transfer.

Once the deal is agreed between both clubs, all that is required is for Angeleri to receive his Italian passport, which will allow him to play in Europe without needing a work permit.
