Riveros And Da Silva Hold Off World Champions

Steve Bruce has spoke highly of Paraguay and their football ability to shock some teams and he was spot on with tonights opening game.

Christian Riveros and Paulo Da Silva were both excellent as they stuck to their jobs in midfield and defence respectively. Da Silva never placed a foot wrong and was unlucky to concede a goal to De Rossi after some awful goalkeeping from a Pepe corner.

Riveros started in an advanced midfield role but dropped back to help battle in the centre of the park. He looked very tidy and always found his man with a sensible pass and good vision.

Riveros also showed he likes to get stuck in after a 'naughty' tackle in the first minute. However, after escaping a caution he won the majority of the 50/50s in midfield to show he can be a valuable asset to Sunderland next season.

Overall I was pleased with both performances and will be looking forward to the next game to see if they can continue to impress the Sunderland fans all watching in hope.
