Utaka For £2m - Good Signing?

Utaka, 28, currently with relegated side Portsmouth has already been quoted saying he would love to join Sunderland this transfer window. It now looks like this story is growing amongst the tabloids and sports columns with a reported offer of £2m being offered to Pompey.

The Nigerian forward could be a decent signing as back up if Murphy and Healy both move on to new clubs but he would not get in ahead of Bent or Jones.

Inconsistent, lazy and very average. Yep a typical Sunderland signing - snap him up.
Wswilly3
Decent back up, as you have just described Daryl Murphys whole life as a player in that opening sentence mate.
GazJohnson
An ok squad player, but £2m seems a bit much. You'd be paying £1m per goal.
Teddy_KGB
Pompey fan here. I hope for your sakes that you dont sign him. as WSwilly said inconsistent and lazy. he is actually very talented but just doesnt seem to care which makes him all the more frustrating. wasted a space in the starting 11 for many a week with us. hope the same doesnt happen for you!
brucey_main
I hope he doesn't come either
GazJohnson
simply another player that is in the football world for the money.

OK OK you macams drive a hard bargain. So- final offer- we will pay £2.5 m if you take him now and another £.5m when he hasn't performed for 30 games; cmon can't say fairer than that!
russellm
Macams? Are they not a type of nut? MACKEMS!!! We should not be in for this player I would rather chase Dindane than this clown.
GazJohnson
Sorry GazJohnson - Mackems it is, but nuts you would be if you went for Dindane, Freddie set up most of his goals, has a greater work rate (not hard) both had about a 1 in 10 shot on target rate.
russellm
Oh don't get me wrong they are both bad but i would prefer Dindane than Utaka but obviously I would be happier with neither. I do not think this deal will happen.
GazJohnson
Definitely don't want Utaka and I think the story is false anyway
