The Rock Returns

Lyon have tonight confirmed the loan deal of the 'Rock of Gibraltar', John Mensah to Sunderland.

In a fantastic deal for the football club, Mensah will join on loan initially before signing permanently for around 4M if he plays 25 games next season. He will also sign if the club takes up the option by April 30th 2011.

The stocky central defender was a class act for Sunderland last season but injury prevented him from making a bigger impact.
This deal gives Steve Bruce the ideal solution should Mensah's injury problems continue. It is thought SAFC are just awaiting a work permit to rubber stamp the deal.

Mensah was one of the World Cup's top defenders in South Africa, reaching the Quarter Finals with Ghana.
