The Rock Returns

Lyon have tonight confirmed the loan deal of the 'Rock of Gibraltar', John Mensah to Sunderland.

In a fantastic deal for the football club, Mensah will join on loan initially before signing permanently for around £4M if he plays 25 games next season. He will also sign if the club takes up the option by April 30th 2011.

The stocky central defender was a class act for Sunderland last season but injury prevented him from making a bigger impact.
This deal gives Steve Bruce the ideal solution should Mensah's injury problems continue. It is thought SAFC are just awaiting a work permit to rubber stamp the deal.

Mensah was one of the World Cup's top defenders in South Africa, reaching the Quarter Finals with Ghana.
