Sunderland headed into the game making only one change from their brave display against Everton on Monday. John Mensah replaced the long term injured Michael Turner to partner Anton Ferdinand at the back.
Bruce decided to leave Welbeck up front with Darren Bent and have Gyan on the bench as he recovers from a thigh injury.
Sunderland were awful in the majority of the first half but had the better share of possession. We looked un-organised in defence and Gordon was shaky from a few lovely balls in from the excellent Jarvis.
Richardson, still operating in midfield was poor all game and never really looked in control of the ball had the best chance for us with a free kick. Richardson slammed the ball over the wall with his left foot, only to see the ball hit the inside of the post and out for a goal kick.
Wolves had a goal disallowed for offside as the cracks began to appear in an awful defensive display at Molineux. Steve Bruce commented after the game that if we defend like that it is going to be another long winter of discontent.
Wolves grabbed the opening goal in the second half through poor passing by Cattermole to lose possession easily. Wolves broke down the right and found the unmarked Jarvis. Jarvis cut inside Henderson to see his shot parried out by Gordon for a simple tap in for Foley.
Sunderland fans who traveled 180 miles will not have been shocked to see them take the lead. However, this brought a reaction from the Sunderland players as they started to play their best football.
It's a shame that we can only step up our game when we are a goal down and something that needs to change very quickly.
Darren Bent got the equaliser from a lovely headed flick by Welbeck sent Bent clean through. Bent obliged to take his chance and slotted the ball past Hennessy with ease.
Sunderland continued to impress going forward and now had Gyan on from the bench to scare the Wolves defence even more.
The second goal came from Asamoah who found space on the left and fed the ball back to Bardsley to float into the middle. The cross was excellent and the header was even better by Welbeck who leaped up to head the ball into the far right oorner. This was Welbeck's 4th goal in three games.
You would think this would be enought to hold onto a valuable three points but poor defending and shocking decisions by officials would change all of that.
Wolves scored a 2nd goal that was clearly offside as the ball was played back into the box. The linesman missed this and allowed Jarvis the time to cross in for Elekobi to head towards goal. Gordon should have done better but fumbled it to Hunt on the line to get Wolves back into the game.
The final winning goal for Wolves was a summary of how poor our defence was during this game.
Doyle found himself under no pressure on the left wing to send a hopeful ball into their box. The ball found a completely unmarked Ebanks-Blake who smashed it past a helpless Gordon.
Overall a very poor result that could have been avoided if we played well from the 1st whistle rather than the whistle of them kicking off from a goal down. The defence looked all over the place and Mensah was down injured after every collision. Henderson was missing again and Richardson simply done nothing useful.
Next game against bottom team West Ham does not look that easy now after this performance.
Keep the faith!
