Mick Mac set for new job?
While Niall Quinn searches for a new man to take charge on Wearside, the previous encumbent of the post is set to take over elsewhere.
Sunderland's Championship rivals Wolves are rumoured to be close to appointing Mick McCarthy as their new boss.
Wolves Chief Executive Jez Moxey earlier this week said it was a 'possibility' that a new boss could be appointed this week and McCarthy has emerged as the favourite.
The former Millwall and Republic of Ireland boss won the Championship two years ago with Sunderland, a year after losing in the play-off semi-final on penalties to Crystal Palace. He therefore has the necessary 'big club in the Championship' experience that the Wolves job would require.
Should McCarthy get the job he'd be sure to recieve a warm reception on his return to the Stadium of Light, despite last season's shambles Sunderland fans still have a lot of respect for the Yorkshireman.
