Bruce given job re-assurances
Steve Bruce has been re-assured that his job is safe unless the situation at the Stadium of Light becomes 'apocalyptic'.
After a slow start to the Premier League season, Bruce's job has come under intense scrutiny.
However, Niall Quinn stepping aside as chairman earlier this week was expected to be the final nail in Bruce's coffin.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Quinn denied the rumours:
'It's time for him to build a closer relationship with Ellis [Short].'
'Steve will get time for this team to gel. There's another window looming. Unless the situation becomes apocalyptic, and it's no good worrying about that, Steve will get time.'
Quinn continued by singing the praises of Short who he described as 'straightforward', and 'a real man'.
Perhaps most importantly for Bruce though, Quinn said that Short would be who won't pay any attention to what the media has to say about the club.
That alone might keep him safe for now.
