O'Neill to be handed 20m transfer funds

Martin O'Neill is expected to be formally announced as Sunderland manager after Sunday's game with Wolves.

The Ulsterman will be handed a 20m January transfer fund to perform highly-necessary surgery on his squad, according to The Express.

The world's worst-kept secret has been teetering on the brink of becoming official for 24 hours now, but the general consensus is that O'Neill will take over the reigns following the Molinuex clash on Sunday.

Despite Ellis Short's desire to reign in the spending at the Stadium of Light, Niall Hickman of The Express says that the former Celtic and Villa man will have 20m to improve a squad which has been left weak by Steve Bruce.

On another tangent, The Daily Mail say that O'Neill will bring some of his trusted former Villa staff to SOL with him once he is appointed.

The likes of Steve Walford, Ian Storey-Moore and John Robertson are expected to follow their former gaffer to the North East.

I heard he's going to make a 10m bid for Habib Beye in January, to avoid having to fight for his signature in the summer when he's available on a free
