McClean makes Ireland squad for Euro 2012

Sunderland winger James McClean has been handed a place in Giovanni Trapattoni's Ireland squad for this summers European Championships.

The 23 year-old winger has made just one appearance for the Republic but has impressed sufficiently in 22 appearances for the Black Cats to earn a spot.

McClean, born in Derry, Northern Ireland, has won youth caps for Northern Ireland, and, on February 9 of this year he won clearance to represent the Republic.

A debut against the Czech Republic as a 78th minute substitute followed and now the former Derry man will travel to Poland and Ukraine next month.

The full Republic of Ireland squad for the Euro's is as follows:

Given, Westwood, Forde; Dunne, O'Shea, St.Ledger, O'Dea, Ward, Kelly, Foley; Whelan, Gibson, Andrews, Fahey, Duff, McGeady, Hunt, McClean; Keane, Doyle, Cox, Long & Walters.

Standby list: Randolph, McShane, Green, Coleman & Keogh.
