'If It's Football, It's Vital'

SAFC international round-up

b>It was a good weekend for Sunderland's Irish trio, with both James McClean and Kieren Westwood get 90 minutes for the Republic.

A 1-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina provided Giovanni Trapattoni with an opportunity to look at his squad with McClean and Westwood both playing the full 90.

The game marked the first McClean's first full appearance for Ireland and he marked it with an impressive display down the left.

Between the sticks, Westwood was collecting his ninth cap as a deputy for the injured Shay Given.

John O'Shea however did not feature after continuing the suffer with an ankle injury picked up in the final day defeat to Manchester United.

The experienced defender could well find himself replaced in Ireland's squad when the deadline arrives tomorrow.

Former Sunderland man Paul McShane would be expected to fill O'Shea's boots.

Phil Bardsley was part of the Scotland side that went down 5-1 to the USA in Jacksonville, Flordia.

The full-back was directly at fault for one of the American goals.

Finally, goalkeeper Simon Mignolet didn't feature for Belgium against Montenegro in a 2-2 draw on Friday night but has been assured he will start against England this Saturday.
