Ellis Short speaks of his ambitions for SAFC

Sunderland owner Ellis Short has give a rare, in-depth interview to the press today, outlining his ambitions for the Black Cats.

The Irish-American businessman has told The Sunderland Echo that he expects Sunderland to become a fixture in the Premier League's top 10.

Sunderland have of course rarely troubled the top half of the league table since their return to the Premier League under Roy Keane, and bar a couple of hairy seasons, have been fairly comfortable in top-flight survival.

That isn't enough for owner Short though, who outlined his ambitions for the club:

"We are not happy with finishing 13th, we are not happy at all, but we realise that you need steady progress, you need continual progress.

"You don`t want to finish seventh twice in a row and get relegated the next season, which has happened in the past.'

Short continued:

"We want to be well within the top 10 - we certainly can`t promise that, but we are not happy with where we are and we do want to continue to improve.'

Short was also full of praise for the club's supporters, citing their superb support as a major factor in the club's success' in the season just gone.
