Injury blow for Brown

Experienced defender Wes Brown could have suffered knee ligament damage in the 3-2 defeat of Groningen yesterday morning.

The former Manchester United centre-half limped off after just over half an hour of the Peace Cup victory prompting serious concerns over his knee.

Speaking to The Shields Gazette, Martin O'Neill confirmed his concerns:

"Wes is the worry. It could be a bad one, but we really don`t know at this stage.

"You`re told one thing at half-time and another thing at full-time, so really it`s too early to tell.

"We`ll probably only find out once we`re home and it settles down, but hopefully it wont be too bad because he`s an important player for us."

O'Neill also has further injury concerns in the shape of Simon Mignolet (thigh), Blair Adams (hamstring), David Vaughan (groin) and Carlos Cuellar with the first three not fit enought to feature against FC Groningen.
