Wolves reject third Fletcher offer

Wolverhampton Wanderers have today rejected a third offer for their star forward, Steven Fletcher.

The former Hibernian and Burnley forward has been the subject of a summer-long pursuit from Martin O'Neill as he seeks to improve his striking options.

However, after two original offers were knocked back, Sunderland launched a bid believed to be worth £12m.

The forward tweeted last week to confirm speculation that he had handed in a transfer request - a sign surely that the Scottish international is keen to move to the Stadium of Light.

Wolves though are refusing to play ball and according to some reports could be holding out for a fee closer to the £15m mark - a figure which would make Fletcher the club's record signing if he were to put pen-to-paper.

Wolves' CEO Jez Moxey told the BBC that the club's best players were not for sale unless bidding clubs met their valuations:

'We want to keep our best players.

'If our valuations are not met then they will remain at Wolves.'

Twenty-five year-old Fletcher bagged 12 Premier League goals in 26 appearances for the Black Country outfit last season as they were miserably relegated, bottom of the pile.

Whether or not Sunderland will return with a fourth offer is as yet, unknown.
