A JAMES MCCLEAN brace saw Sunderland progress safely to the third round of the Capital One League Cup at the expense of League Two Morecambe.
The Irish international bagged the opener with a header after 24 minutes before doubling up in the 64th minute with a left-footed finish from inside the penalty area.
Martin O'Neill handed Sunderland debuts to new signings Adam Johnson and Steven Fletcher.
Kieren Westwood came in for Simon Mignolet between the sticks whilst Jack Colback slotted in at left-bck, Titus Bramble at centre-back and Sebastian Larsson in the centre of midfield.
