Meyler called-up by Republic of Ireland
David Meyeler's whirlwind 2012 continued yesterday evening with the news he had been called up to the full Republic of Ireland squad.
The Cork-born 23 year-old only returned from his second serious knee injury in October, making his first start under Martin O'Neill this February.
However, having fought hard for his place in the centre of midfielder Meyler has been a regular throughout pre-season and was the man who replaced Lee Cattermole after 36 minutes of yesterday's draw at Swansea.
All that has seen Meyler called into the senior Irish squad by Giovanni Trapattoni.
There will be plenty of familiar faces in the senior side as Meyler joins Sunderland team mates John O'Shea, Kieren Westwood and James McClean.
Trapttoni's side face Kazakhstan in a 2014 World Cup Qualifier on September 7, before a friendly against Oman four days later.
Meyler took to Twitter to break the news, calling it the biggest moment of his career so far:
@DavidMeyler 'So happy to be called into the Irish squad. Biggest moment of my career, like to thank everyone especially my Dad, Mum and Sister! Love DM'
