Johnson wins England call-up

Sunderland winger Adam Johnson has been called up by England boss Roy Hodgson as the Three Lions take on San Marino and Poland in World Cup qualifying.

Johnson, 25, has 12 full England caps and has scored twice for his country, but has been out of the international picture recently after falling down the pecking order at Manchester City.

However a return to the north east has seen the Sunderland-born flyer return to the international set-up under Hodgson who has made several changes to his latest squad.

Celtic 'keeper Fraser Forster is a surprise inclusion, whilst Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon returns and Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross earns a call-up.

England will face San Marino on October 12 at Wembley before travelling to Poland on October 16.

Full squad to face San Marino/Poland:

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Celtic), Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich).

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Joleon Lescott (Manchester City), Ryan Shawcross (Stoke), Kyle Walker (Tottenham).

Midfielders: Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Adam Johnson (Sunderland), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Theo Walcott (Arsenal).

Forwards: Andy Carroll (West Ham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) & Danny Welbeck (Manchester United).

Congratulations Adam!
