O'Neill & Pardew put differences aside

Martin O'Neill and Alan Pardew have put their differences aside ahead of this weekend's derby at the Stadium of Light, Pardew has revealed.

The two clashed on the touchline throughout the 1-1 draw at St. James' Park last season and were less than complimentary about one another at full-time.

Lee Cattermole set the tone for a tempestuous clash when he put in a terrible challenge withint the opening minute.

Stephane Sessegnon was sent off in the 58th minute for raising a hand to Magpies' midfielder Cheick Tiote before Cattermole was sent off after the full-time whistle for foul and abusive language.

Magpies' goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman was also sent to the stands during a stormy second period.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Pardew admitted his behaviour had not been ideal:

"Silly things got said on the bench, it got out of hand and it was unsavoury but it happens," admitted the Newcastle boss.

Pardew continued: "It`s a passionate game but maybe I could have been a bit more grown-up about it."

The pair are believed to have apologised for their actions at the League Managers Association LMA) end-of-season awards dinner at the end of the last season with O'Neill congratulating Pardew on a successful first campaign on Tyneside.
