O'Neill: 'Probably should have won'

Martin O'Neill was left rueing another poor performance at the Stadium of Light today as Sunderland went down 1-0 at the hands of his former employers Aston Villa.

A 57th minute strike from Gabriel Agbonlahor separated the two sides, leaving both clubs tied on nine points at this stage.

Speaking to safc.com after the game, O'Neill was adamant that the Black Cats should have been victorious:

"We probably should have won the game, but the ball just didn`t drop for us today,' stated O'Neill.

We`re not scoring goals, we`ve had people in and around the penalty area, but it just doesn`t seem to be happening for us.

"I could not fault the players` effort whatsoever. I think it was epitomised by a fantastic performance from Lee Cattermole.

"It was as good a performance as I have seen from a player and he didn`t deserve to be on the losing side,' continued O'Neill.

Sunderland face bogey side Everton next Saturday in the Barclays Premier League.
