Noble heads list of youngsters to be released

Ryan Noble is the standout name among a list of five young professionals who will leave Sunderland at the end of the season.

Noble, 21, has made just substitute outings for the Black Cats in both league and cup since turning professional three years ago.

The Millfield-born forward, prolific at youth and reserve team level, has also taken in loan spells at Watford, Derby County (twice) and Hartlepool United (twice).

Along with Noble, goalkeeper Ben Wilson, midfielders Adam Reed and Wade Joyce and defender Anthony Callaghan will all depart when their contract s expire this summer.

Under-21's captain Reed is one of the more senior names on the list to depart, having previously been on-loan in the Football League and Brentford, Bradford City, Leyton Orient and currently Portsmouth.

Wilson, 20, has been on-loan with Gateshead and Harrogate Town as well as League Two side Chesterfield, where he failed to feature.

Neither Joyce or Callaghan have played first-team football at any level with Joyce currently on trial at Sheffield Wednesday as he looks for his next move, and Callaghan sidelined through injury.

There was better news for Craig Lynch, meanwhile, who has earned himself a new deal, as well as Joel Dixon, John Egan, David Ferguson, Alex Gorrin, Scott Harrison, Billy Knott, Jordan Laidler, Liam Marrs, Adam Mitchell, Connor Oliver and Jordan Watson.
