'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'Drop Cannot Be Beaten Like This' says Poyet

Gus Poyet has fired a warning at his players, telling them that how things stand at the moment, they are not good enough to beat the drop.

The 46-year-old has not been at the Stadium of Light for five minutes but he has already sussed out most of the players and knows who is good enough and who is playing their best and you can bet that that list is not too long.

The latest defeat to Tottenham at home on Saturday has left Sunderland five points adrift at the bottom and with Crystal Palace suddenly finding some form it could get even worse unless the team start claiming some points.

The boss is hoping that the January transfer window will see some new, maybe more talented players come in, but rumour has it around the area that the chairman is reluctant to make more funds available unless the current side shows more improvement.

Disappointed by the defeat at home to Tottenham, Poyet told reporters: 'You can't do it every now and then. With all respect, we don't get paid to do your job today but not tomorrow, and maybe on Wednesday but not on Saturday.

'At the moment, we are not good enough. Sometimes being honest doesn't mean that you are negative. I am not, I am very positive. I am realistic and at the moment, that's what we are.

'We want to keep going, yes. The desire, the fighting, the spirit, the players are trying their best. At the moment, it's not enough, so we will see how we are going to change.'

It would seem that Poyet would have to off-load a few before he can buy.
