'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Cattermole Right Behind Boss.

Lee Cattermole is right behind the boss and insists there will be no relegation for Sunderland this season.

Gus Poyet came to the Stadium of Light to take over from Paolo Di Canio in the hope of changing the fortunes of the club, but at the moment the club are rooted to the bottom of the league and will be on Christmas Day, a guide often used to gauge whether a club goes down or not.

Even so, Cattermole believes that the team did more than enough on Saturday to show that they have what it takes to fight off the threat of the drop.

He told Sky Sports News: 'All we can do is take confidence from the game.

'The manager said it is the best performance he has seen from his Sunderland side - we controlled the game throughout.

'The message from the manager is that if we play like that for the rest of the season we will have no worries."

It`s beginning to sound like a stuck record though by now, we keep hearing about how the squad is good enough to keep themselves in the top flight, but lack that bit on the field that could turn a game around.

Lets hope Poyet has something up his sleeve when the January transfer window opens.
