'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Nya ready to Tanga...

New signing Lewin Nyatanga has revealed that he can't wait to make his Black Cats bow.

The Welsh international signed from Derby on loan until January yesterday and is expected to be named in the match day squad, and maybe even thrown straight into the first eleven.

The 18 year-old has made only a handful of appearances for Derby this term and is eager to get some games under his belt,

Nyatanga told The Journal: 'I hope to get involved at the weekend. I trained this morning and I enjoyed it. I got to know all the lads and I think I'll enjoy my time here.

'I want to play games and at Derby that was not happening. I got the chance to go on loan and I took it.

'I've not played as many games as I would have liked this season, that was just the situation at Derby. Hopefully, this is a progressive move for me.

'It's a great opportunity for me, it's a big club and for me to have the chance to come and play for this club is brilliant.

'This is a great club, any player would want to play here.

'There's just been a change of management and it looks like everything is moving in the right direction, it's very positive.

'Sunderland have had a couple of bad results, but I'm sure we can change that.'

Nyatanga is predominantly a centre-back, however the naturally left-footed player may well be used by Keane as a full back, with the boss so far seemingly unhappy with the current incumbents of that position,

Nyatanga added: 'I'm a centre-back, my strengths are that I'm quite good on the ball, bringing it out from the back.

'I've played with some great players with Wales and you learn from them - it's helped me last year. I met Danny Collins on my first trip with Wales, and he was great with me.'
