'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'Bardsley Is Terrific' says Strachan.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan says that is was a very easy decision to include Phil Bardsley in his latest Scotland squad as he is improving more and more with each game.

Bardsley is in the squad that travels out to Warsaw to face Poland on March 5th; just three days after the defender will be involved in the League Cup final at Wembley.

Bardsley has been overlooked by the Scotland hierarchy since 2012 and this is the first time that Strachan has called upon his services since he took the manager's job.

Speaking about the defender, Strachan told the Gazette: "Bardsley`s back in there and has been a terrific player for Sunderland in the last few months.

"At this stage last season we never saw him. Now we`ve seen him and the more games he gets, the better he has become.

"He has been a big figure in Sunderland`s improvement over the last few months."

Bardsley looked to be on his way out of the club at one time when Paolo Di Canio was in charge as he struggled to find form and had a fall out with the Italian, but since Gus Poyet has taken over Bardsley has been a transformed player and loving his time at the Stadium of Light.
