A Miller's Tale: talks ongoing

Reports yesterday suggested that Tommy Miller's move to Preston was set to collapse due to his Premiership wage.

Boss Paul Simpson suggested that his side could not compete with the likes of Derby and Sunderland, hinting that a move for Sunderland's most influential midfielder since Paul Thirlwell was over.

But Roy Keane today denied that the move had collapsed and was adamant that talks were still ongoing,

'I've been swapping messages with Paul Simpson over the last week and we are hopeful something might be done in that direction.

'But there's nothing to report yet and we'll just have to wait and see whether anything happens.'

Miller spent three months on loan at Preston and Sunderland fans were relieved and surprised to find that Preston wanted to keep him. Quite frankly we're all surprised they even noticed that he'd arrived, given his penchant for the marvelous Miller disappearing act when performing on Wearside.

But it seems that if the Sunderland-born Miller does want a move then he's going to have to finally do something of note, and engineer his own transfer,

'We spoke about Tommy and I told him to come back to me and put some sort of package together if they want to speak to him. I have left that with him,' Keane revealed.
