Larsson's Manchester United Red Appeal Rejected

Larsson's Manchester United Red Appeal Rejected

Sunderland have failed to successfully appeal Sebastian Larsson's sending off in the defeat against Manchester United last Sunday.

When it's not going for you nothing seems to go in your favour does it? Things certainly aren't going Sunderland's way with the Black Cats apparently doomed for the Championship, 10 points from Premier League safety.

David Moyes, talking of things not going for you, didn't believe Larsson's challenge on Ander Herrera deserved a yellow card let alone the straight red handed to the Swede shortly before half time at the Stadium of Light.

Moyes was quoted by Sky Sports: 'He gets the ball, he touches the ball. There's no contact at all, so it's not even a booking. What I don't want to do is in any way blame the referees because our position is where we are, we are bottom of the league. So let me make that clear first of all, it's nothing to do with referees. But I didn't think it was a good decision.'

Unfortunately, the referee and now Football Association, disagreed with the Sunderland boss as Larsson's sending off has been upheld, leading to a three match ban - kicking in against West Ham this weekend.

Larsson, 31, will sit out the subsequent Premier League meetings with Middlesbrough and Bournemouth as Sunderland bid to perform the 'greatest comeback since Lazarus' as the late Sid Waddell, yes I know a Geordie, once said.
