Sunderland Retain Experienced Captain

Sunderland Retain Experienced Captain

New Sunderland boss Simon Grayson was handed a welcome boost over the weekend with the confirmation that former Manchester United defender John O'Shea had signed a new contract.

When unveiled in his first news conference as Sunderland boss, Grayson confirmed the news on Friday and the club swiftly followed by releasing a brief statement on the Official Website.

O'Shea, having arrived at the Stadium of Light in 2011 after winning the Premier League five times during his illustrious career at Man United, will remain on Wearside for another 12 months, at least.

This new one year deal for the 116 times capped Republic of Ireland international O'Shea, 36, will allow Grayson to call upon the vast experience of the Sunderland captain for the upcoming Championship season.

Sunderland have previously lost Jordan Pickford to Everton in a club record deal, Jermain Defoe on a free transfer to Bournemouth and most recently Fabio Borini after the Italian joined AC Milan.
