McGeady & Vaughan Deals Confirmed

McGeady & Vaughan Deals Confirmed

Sunderland have completed the signings of Championship proven, and former Premier League players, Everton's Aiden McGeady and James Vaughan from Bury.

McGeady, on a three year deal, and Vaughan, two years, have arrived for undisclosed fees.

Undisclosed by Sunderland but Sky Sports is reporting £250,000 has been paid for McGeady with Vaughan setting the Black Cats back £900,000.

Last season McGeady, who could come up against former club Celtic at the end of the month, played under new Sunderland boss Simon Grayson during a loan at Preston, which saw him named as the Player of the Year at Deepdale.

Grayson spoke to the Official Website about his delight at securing the Republic of Ireland international.

'Aiden`s career speaks volumes. He`s been an exceptional player and was an outstanding performer at Preston last season. He was recognised by the league with Player of the Month awards and he already knows a few of the lads from his Everton days. He has the pace to take people on and carry us up the pitch, and he`ll excite the supporters.'

Vaughan, who has also played under Grayson previously, at Huddersfield, played in League One last season at Bury, joining them last summer. In his campaign at Gigg Lane the forward, 28, scored a career best 24 goals in 37 appearances.

The boss added: 'James has good experience and he scored a lot of goals last year. He`s a player who will come into the squad and give us something different because I think we were missing a striker with a physical presence - and he certainly brings that attribute. He`s mobile, he knows where the goal is and he fits in with the ethos that we`re trying to bring to Sunderland.'

A double deal, the first permanent transfers Grayson's made as Sunderland boss, takes the number of recruits on Wearside to four after the season-long loan arrivals of Everton defenders Brendan Galloway and Ty Browning.
