LuaLua Swaps The Amex For Light

LuaLua Swaps The Amex For Light

Kazenga LuaLua late last night left Brighton and joined Sunderland on a free transfer.

There was speculation yesterday that Sunderland were in for the Brighton winger but on a potential loan basis until the end of the season, however extremely late in the evening it was announced that Brighton had mutually agreed to terminate his deal with them, so he could make the switch to Sunderland on a permanent deal.

The 27 year old was one of Brighton's longest serving players having joined them on a permanent basis back in 2011 but having fallen out of favour and seen a lack of game time, manager Chris Hughton told their Official Site that the decision to cancel his contract was in the best interests of both parties.

'The competition for places in our wide areas means that it has been very difficult for Kazenga to play the number of matches he would have liked here. He has worked tremendously hard during his time with us and has played a major part in the club`s history. I would like to wish him all the very best for the future on behalf of everyone at the club.'

He departs the Amex Stadium having made 183 appearances, with a return of 22 goals.

Sunderland's Official Site quickly confirmed his arrival at the Stadium of Light.

He joins on a half season contract which will expire in the summer to see how he fits in under manager Chris Coleman, and the former Welsh manager said of his arrival.

'Kaz was determined to come here and get playing first-team football again and I look forward to helping him play the kind of football he is capable of. He`s quick, skillful and has a lot of experience at this level. He gives us another option in attack and, most importantly, is up for the fight.'

There will no doubt be more come the morning.
