Ruiter Set For Three Month Lay Off

Ruiter Set For Three Month Lay Off

Sunderland goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter is set for a 12 week spell on the sidelines after dislocating his finger in training.

The Dutchman had become a regular between the sticks following his arrival back in August and he had made 21 appearances for us - keeping five clean sheets in his last eleven games - but found himself dropped to the bench for the game against Ipswich Town as new signing Lee Camp took to the pitch.

The 30 year old is now completely out of contention for the foreseeable future but we do have cover in the shape of Camp, Jason Steele and Max Stryjek.

Providing an injury update to the Official Site as he met with the media this week ahead of the trip to Bristol City, manager Chris Coleman explained.

'Adam Matthews is definitely out. Robbin Ruiter will be out for probably eight to 12 weeks with a dislocated finger - a badly dislocated finger.'

There were some positives on an injury front though.

'Marc Wilson is progressing nicely and maybe next week he could be involved with the group again. Paddy McNair, if he isn`t involved with the squad at the weekend, will possibly play an under-23s game which is good for us.'

Coleman went on to say.

'Jonny Williams played 90 minutes for us in the under-23s on Monday night so he is a bit closer. Lamine Kone, after he landed badly on his knee against Birmingham, although he completed 90 minutes, should be okay after this weekend.'
