Performance Can't Dip Now

Performance Can't Dip Now

Midfielder Lee Cattermole has said that Sunderland must not let their performance levels dip again following the rousing fightback against Bristol City at the weekend.

With the players back in training now and a busy seven days ahead of us where we face Brentford at the weekend, followed by a trip to Bolton Wanderers and then a home tie against Middlesbrough, Cattermole knows performing consistently as we did against the Robins given the three goal comeback has to be the basis level for all showings now as we bid to end the current campaign on a high and pull up the Championship table.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the press on Monday, Cattermole explained.

'We need to get that second-half performance repeated as many times as we can between now and the end of the season. We need to believe in what we`re doing and trust each other because you can see - and it`s the biggest thing for me - that the fans are waiting to come with us.'

Reflecting on Bristol City, he went on to say that the proof is very much in the pudding in terms of how we approached and attacked the final 20 minutes of the game and even given their advantage on a goal front, we pushed them into errors with our own efforts and the players need to trust in themselves more often.

'You saw it and as soon as we got one back it was rocking which puts them on the back foot. The manager asked for a response and for us to take something from the game which we could build on going into the rest of the season, and we can`t let what we`ve done in the second-half slip from us now.'

He went on to add.

'We need to make sure we go into next weekend with everyone at 100% and prepare the best way we can, and then put a performance in at home. We need to take one game at a time and keep building, and not get too excited because we`ve had 45 minutes here but the first-half was nowhere near where we need to be at. Let`s keep our feet on the ground, go again and start clawing our way out of this.'
