Sunderland under the cosh for most of the game came back from two goals down to take the game to extra time thanks to super sub Anthony Stokes.

Chris Lakin and Luke Guttridge scored the goals for an impressive Nothampton who were 2 nil up until Stokes got his first in the 85 minute.

Sunderland then managed to hold out for penalties after seeing themselves go down to ten men (Nosworthy couldn`t continue due to injury).

Sunderland went on to win the fixture 4-3 on penalties with Chopra, Murphy, Reid and Richardson scoring from the spot.
