Sunderland 1 - Tottenham Hotspurs 0

11/08/2007 12:45

Attendance: 43967

Sunderland 1 Tottenham 0

The first game of the season and as games go this was brilliant. We created chances scoring one of them and defended really well.

Michael Chopra scored a last minute goal to send the Stadium of Light in to raptures.

Sunderland should have scored minutes earlier through Etuhu but Robinson saved brilliantly.

Murphy had a good chance in the first half when he was through on goal with only the keeper to beat, but he could only find Robinson with his shot.

Spurs were limited to long range shots for most of the game as Sunderland defended brilliantly.

Sunderland Line Up

Yorke (Miller)
Richardson (Collins)
Stokes (Chopra)

Subs not used

Star Player

Paul McShane

A solid performance in defence along side Nosworthy who was also excellent.

Match Comment

An excellent result, we played well from the beginning to the very end. I think if we had carried on playing for another 90 minutes Spurs still wouldn`t have scored, our defence was outstanding today. I hope we can keep it up for the rest of the season.
