Referee:

A Liverpool side with aspirations to be premiership champions beat Sunderland with a classy display. The score should have been much more had it not been for the heroics of Craig Gordon.

The tone of the match was set when Halford`s ridiculous short back pass found Voronin only for Gordon to smother the shot.

Stokes had a good effort denied when he was though on goal only for his shot to go under Renia for Agger to clear.

Mohamed Sissoko then scored a 20 yard shot after Voronin teed him up.

Liverpool had to wait for their second as Sunderland defended well

Voronin then got Liverpool`s second with a well worked move. Hitting Sunderland on the counter attack Pennent, Babel and Torres played in Voronin who shot hard and low leaving Gordon no chance.
