Liam Miller scored a last minute equaliser for Sunderland as the points were shared by the two local rivals.
Sunderland started the game brightly and scored with their first move of the match.
Chopra`s blocked shot was picked up by Grant Leadbitter just inside the area, Leadbitter coolly slotted resulting shot passed Schwarzer.
Julio Arca scored Boro`s equaliser the ex-Sunderland hero started the move in the middle of the park, he picked out O`Neil who in turn picked out Arca running in to the box with an excellent cross. Arca`s header beat Gordon from close range and Arca refused to celebrate.
Boro`s second goal came from another player who has played for the Blackcats. Stewart Downing's 25 yard shot beat Gordon and Sunderland looked like they were leaving the Teesside pointless.
But Sunderland stuck at it and finally got what they deserved in the last minute of the game.
Liam Miller unleashes an unstoppable shot that went straight in to the top left hand corner of Boro`s goal leaving Schwarzer no chance.
