Sunderland 1 Blackburn 2

Sunderland where undone by their own bad defending As Blackburn scored two goals within two minutes. The game was very even and you got the feeling who ever scored first would go on to win. Blackburn did just that but it was Sunderland`s own undoing which saw them go behind just after the break.

Bentley scored Blackburn`s first after Roque Santa Cruz`s blocked shot fell perfectly for him. Bentley then had time to pick his spot and Gordon had no chance.

Roque Santa Cruz capitalised on another Sunderland mistake seconds later as Higginbotham`s under hit back pass was collected by Emerton. Emerton`s shot was then spilled by Gordon back to the Australian. Emerton did no more than head the ball in to the path of Cruz for a tap in.

Sunderland then scored another cracking late goal but it was too little too late when Grant Leadbitter thumped home a 20 yarder to make it a nervy 4 minutes for Blackburn.

Match Comment

Another chance of any points passes us by. Sunderland can only blame themselves for the bad defending.

I can`t understand why Keane brought Murphy, and Connolly on. I think it killed off any kind of fight back we might have had. We went from having one winger on to having none.

Connolly is an excellent Championship player but he hasn`t got the pace or the strength for the premiership.

Murphy is in my opinion at best an average championship player.

On to a plus point it was nice to see Miller and Leadbitter play in the middle near the end of the game they looked a good partnership. Hopefully when Edwards is fit Keane will play them together in the middle of the park.
