The proverbial 'hard-as-nails' central midfielder, club captain Lee Cattermole was recruited from Steve Bruce's former club Wigan for £6m in 2009.
The Middlesbrough-born enforcer made his name with the Latics after Bruce had initially taken him there from the Smoggies before moving to SOL.
Discipline problems have hampered him slightly back in the North East but he remains a key cog.
