A pacey, tricky winger, James McClean arrived in the summer of 2011 after a lengthy chase.

A former Northern Ireland U21 cap turned full Republic of Ireland international, McClean struggled to make an impact under Steve Bruce despite the insistence of senior pro's that he should be given a chance.

The sacking of Bruce was the turning point for McClean who went on to become a key man under Martin O'Neill in the second half of the season, scooping the club's 'Young Player of the Season' award before heading to Poland and Ukraine with Ireland for the 2012 European Championships.
