Only one of Sunderland's three loanees to feature this weekend tasted defeat with the others both victorious.

In the Championship, George McCartney and West Ham overcame a minor blip to beat Coventry City.

The high-flying Hammers beat the Midlands outfit 2-1 thanks to late goals from Carlton Cole and Freddie Piquionne.

At the other end of the divison, Watford and Nyron Nosworthy beat Portsmouth 2-0 in Michael Appleton's first game in the dug-out for the South Coast side.

Michael Kightly and Marvin Sordell got the goals as Nosworthy enjoyed his third victory from four at Vicarage Road.

In League One, Carlisle United's Liam Noble featured in 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United.

Blair Adams was not involved for League One rivals Brentford having last featured in the F.A Cup tie with Basingstoke last Saturday.
