Internationals: Fletcher injured on Scotland duty
Striker Steven Fletcher has handed Martin O'Neill a blow ahead of the Black Cats Premier League run-in, picking up an ankle injury on Scotland duty.
The striker was withdrawn just a handful of minutes into Scotland's 2-1 defeat by Wales in the World Cup qualifier after landing heavily on his ankle.
In what was Gordon Strachan's first competitive match in charge, Scotland took the lead before goals from Aaron Ramsey and Hal Robson-Kanu turned the tie around.
Despite picking up a knock earlier in the week, Welsh midfielder David Vaughan made the substitutes bench for Chris Coleman's side but was not utilised.
In Stockholm, Seb Larsson's Sweden were held to a goalless draw by the Republic of Ireland, who handed James McClean his first competitive start for the Republic.
Giovanni Trapattoni also started John O'Shea at the back, with Keiren Westwood an unnamed substitute.
McCleam impressed before being replaced by Andy Keogh with seven minutes.
On Thursday night England's U21s beat Romania 3-0, with striker Connor Wickham coming off the bench for the final few minutes of the friendly victory.
