Defoe Not The Only Hero says Advocaat
Defoe's strike just as half time loomed not only started one of the best goal celebrations by fans at the Stadium of Light, it made sure that the Black Cats went onto win an amazing fifth derby on the bounce, silencing any noise the odd Barcode had to make on the matter.
But although the stunning strike had the home fans carrying on their celebrating during the half time break, Advocaat was quick to point out that the win was also down to the fine work put in by other members of the team.
"Jermain has worked hard all week and he got his reward, but everybody worked really hard out there - it wasn`t just about him," said Advocaat to reporters.
"It was not only a great goal, but a great team performance.
"It`s unfair just to name Jermain Defoe because we played so well as a unit.
"Billy Jones was playing his first game in 100 years! And there were lots of other players who had exceptional games for us."
