Advocaat Unhappy About Leaky Defence.
It was a good night for the attack, but little Exeter were not a side that was prepared to take defeat without putting up a strong fight, and they must take credit for the fact that they scored three goals away from home against Premier League opposition.
With Jermain Defoe on form and grabbing a hat trick, at the back the cover looked paper thin as they slipped up three times and paid the price, at half-time the Grecians had hit Sunderland three times and went into the half-time break on level pegging.
But second half goals from Defoe, Jack Rodwell and Duncan Watmore sealed the win and ease the nerves in the stands.
After the game, Advocaat told the Press Association: 'I am happy with the six goals but I am totally unhappy with the goals we gave away at this level.'
The draw for the next round of matches took place after last night's games and Sunderland no face Manchester City at the Stadium of Light.
